Editor's Message - Marketing
Lessons from Stan the Hotdog Man
================================================
Welcome all new ASPOW members
and subscribers!
Last night, as I was reading
my son his favorite book for the
23nd time, I realized that
it teaches some valuable marketing
lessons.
Stan had just retired from
his job as a baker, and was starting
a new job - his very own
hotdog van.
At first, nobody but a school
bus driver comes. "You are my very
first customer - your hotdogs
are free!" Stan says. Marketing
lesson #1 - giving away
fre-e stuff to earn customer's interest
and gratitude.
The same day, Jim, his former
co-worker, comes to visit him. Stan
gives him a fr-ee hotdog
and asks to tell all his friends and
neighbors about his hotdog
van. Marketing lesson #2 - ask everyone
you know to tell everyone
they know about your business.
The next day more people
come up to his van to buy hotdogs. Two
kids and their parents get
out of an old rusty car and ask for
four hotdogs. Realizing
they only have enough money to buy two
hotdogs, Stan says, "You
are lucky - today is our special: buy
one, get one free!"
Marketing lesson #3 - don't sweat the small
stuff, focus on the overall
picture - getting and keeping customers
long-term.
One cold winter day, a severe
snow storm made several vehicles
become stranded, including
a school bus with two children. Stan
kindly offered the bus driver
and the kids to wait the storm out in
his van, feeding them hotdogs
and keeping them warm with his extra
blankets. Marketing
lesson #4 - truly care for people, whether they
are your customers or not.
You'll have their loyalty forever.
While these marketing lessons
apply mainly to a new start-up, every
business owner should apply
these principles.
Now enjoy this week's Insider!
Warmly,
Milana Leshinsky

Take Client Calls at Night
to Increase Your Bottom Line
================================================
by Kevin Nunley
Recently a consultant friend
told me how he doubled and tripled
his income in a single month.
"I take calls at night," he said.
My friend likes to start
work in the evening and keep the fires
burning all night. That
was one of the reasons he chose to work
in his own home-based business.
Studies show there are a great
many of us who would prefer
to work late hours. Internet use is
still reaching a peak after
10pm.
He found, quite by accident,
that a LOT of customers like to work
at night. Clients were delighted
when they learned they could call
in the evening and get service
just as if it were the middle of
the day.
If you work alone and prefer
to do your job at night, turn it
into a marketing strategy.
Let customers know you are available
after hours. Many work jobs
during the day and pursue their special
interests and projects at
night.
Being available late saves
customers from having to use a lunch
break or sneak away from
work to get help or place an order. This
reason alone could easily
be enough to get you the sale.
